Fashionistas, I wanted to end Black History Month on an awesome note about two great African American women.
The first woman is Nina Simone! A timeless musician for over four decades (1959-1993). You know her from her hits "I Loves You Porgy" and "A Single Woman. Her wonderful voice on songs such as "Feeling Good", "Misunderstood", and "I Put A Spell On You". She was a soulful lover and teacher of music. Her style was also very influential. She had a natural style, wore head wraps and African inspired accessories also known as what we would call today statement pieces.
Please go read this wonderful bio about Nina Simone's life. It is so inspirational. http://www.ninasimone.com/about/bio/
Today's modern day Nina is June Ambrose! I love her!!! She is my fav stylist! Honestly don't think she can do any wrong in that department and has started trends that we have all loved from the 90's. She is a designer, stylist, and fashion icon while also being a mother and a wife! Boom! What a modern day woman she is! June has worked with Sean "Diddy" Combs, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, Will Smith, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, and this is just a few lol. I don't know if there is a person that she has not worked with or does not look up to her. She is just that awesome!
Her style consist of so many faces but her signature turbans, hats, and statement pieces come to mind. She can rock just about anything and make it look fabulous.
Please go check out June's website and bio at http://thejuniverse.com/about/
